Julia Do

Julia Do

Julia Do is a senior at NSU and is majoring in nutritional sciences and minoring in Spanish. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Rho Theta Gamma, and National Student Leadership and Service. She is a student worker at the College of Optometry admin office
and an optometric technician at Arrow Eye Clinic. After graduation, she plans on attending
optometry school to work as an optometrist.
Erica Dotson

Erica Dotson

Erica Dotson grew up in Wagoner, Oklahoma. In December of 2019, she graduated with an A.S. in Biology from Connors State College. She graduated summa cum laude from Northeastern State University in May of 2022 with a B.S. in Psychology. During her time at NSU, she also minored in chemistry and criminal justice studies. Her career goals include attending medical school, specializing in child and adolescent psychiatry, and working in tribal healthcare in Oklahoma. During her free time, she enjoys painting landscapes, cooking for her friends and family, and going on long road trips.
Hayley Garcia

Hayley Garcia

Hayley Garcia is from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and is currently majoring in Biochemistry and minoring in Business at Northeastern State University. She is a member of the NSU Women’s Soccer team and serves as the social media representative for the Student-
Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). After graduating, Hayley plans on applying to the
NSU College of Optometry in hopes of becoming a successful optometrist and one day
establishing her own clinic.
Anne Martin

Anne Martin

Anne Martin is from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She will graduate from NSU in the Spring of 2024 with a B.S. in Biochemistry. She is involved in the OK-LSAMP program and NSU’s Honors program, and with their support,
Anne plans to graduate in Biochemistry with a master’s degree or more. After
schooling, she hopes to work in the cosmetic chemistry field.
Lauren Wilcox

Lauren Wilcox

Lauren Wilcox is from Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. She is a senior at
Northeastern State University and is majoring in Cell and Molecular Biology. She
has also been involved with and holds officer positions in the Tri Sigma Sorority, the Honors
Program, and Dance Marathon at NSU. Once she graduates, she plans on attending medical
school and one day working as an OB/GYN.
Quan Yan

Quan Yan

Quan Yan is from ZheJiang, China. He came to NSU through a study abroad program with a Chinese university, spent a year studying the language, and passed the language exam to enter NSU. During this time, Quan discovered his interest in biology and chemistry. He plans to pursue master’s and doctoral studies after graduation. He enjoys spending his free time fishing and working out.

MacKenzie Bethel

MacKenzie Bethel

Kenzie Bethel is from Vian, Oklahoma. She was accepted to the 3+1 program at the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy and began pharmacy school in August of 2023. During her time at NSU, she was a member of the Honors Program and Pre-Professional Health Club. Her goal as a future pharmacist is to further serve her community through the application of medicine.
Myka Heimbach

Myka Heimbach

Myka is from Yukon, Oklahoma. She graduated from NSU in the Spring of 2023 with a B.S. in Biochemistry. During her time at NSU, she played on the women’s soccer team. Her plan is to attend medical school and to become an orthopedic surgeon and one day help athletes like herself. In her free time she loves to read, play with her dog, and anything else outdoors!
Conager McBroom

Conager McBroom

Conager McBroom grew up around the Kiamichi Mountains in Smithville, Oklahoma. He graduated from Carl Albert State College in May of 2021 with an A.S. in Biological and Pre-Professional Sciences. In Spring 2023, Conager graduated from Northeastern State University with a B.S. in Cell and Molecular Biology. After graduation, he began physician assistant school at the Northeastern State University Physician Assistant Studies Program. He enjoys spending most of his free time outdoors or with his family.
Bethany Meija

Bethany Meija

Bethany is a first-generation student at Northeastern State University. After graduating with a B.S. in Cell and Molecular Biology in the spring of 2025, she plans on attending medical school soon in hopes of one day becoming a clinical microbiologist or an immunologist. In her free time, she enjoys fishing, working on her truck, and running.
Shelby Rose

Shelby Rose

Shelby is from Tahlequah, OK and is a senior at Northeastern State University studying cell and molecular biology. He is the first individual in his family to attend college. After graduation, his plan is to further his education and follow his interests with a career in the healthcare field. In his free time, he loves to pursue nature through various outdoor activities, such as hunting, kayaking, and hiking.

Hanna Russell

Hanna Russell is from Vian, Oklahoma. She was accepted to the 3+1 program at the Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and began medical school in the fall of 2023. During her time at NSU, she was a Baccalaureate Honors Student and a member of the Pre-Professional Health Club. After medical school, she plans on specializing in either primary care or ophthalmology.
Luis Vasquez

Luis Vasquez

Bio: Luis graduated from Northeastern State University with a major in computer science and a minor in mathematics in the spring of 2023. He will begin working on his Master’s degree in computer
science at the University of Oklahoma beginning in the fall of 2023. Luis is specifically
interested in the area of machine learning and plans to pursue a Ph.D.

Dr. Valdez has developed a number of creative workshops that utilize active learning and embrace the University Design for Learning theory. She believes that learning happens when we engage and interact with materials and is able to provide workshops and trainings that use many different modes of media.
